My While I Was Stuck in the Supermarket collage series evolved from my frustration that everyday errands were keeping me from working in my art studio. Eyeing a pile of printed circulars in the supermarket, inspiration struck. I’d use the circulars as a base layer for a series of collages honoring iconic women, incorporating everyday ephemeral materials into the pieces. This piece is honoring Janet Flanner, who began her writing career in 1925, when she started writing her iconic "Letters from Paris" for The New Yorker magazine under the pen name Genêt. I always loved this image of her.
