WASHUP 1.0 ASSEMBLAGE, 2025
Scrap steel, Fort Tilden Driftwood
10x 8 x 13
Winter mined from Fort Tilden Beach, Brooklyn, NY. The landscape natural debris is in continual flux, between human and natural histories‚ a static subject, but an active agent. Traces of an encounter, trapped. Reclaimed wood, carrying unique stains and weathered textures, characteristics running deep within the material‚transformed with a kind of alchemy. WASHUP 1.0 is a reminder of everything that is free‚ the wind, sun, air. The wood and steel symbolize the enduring and timeless aspects of life, unfettered from their anticipated contexts, transformed into a whole new thing. Balancing restraint and freedom‚ with grotesque honesty‚ in which faultlessness is not the eventual expression. The interior volume holds memory just as powerfully as the textures of life, maintaining an endless, active present.
