This piece was made for surrealism themed show. The misogynistic assault on women's reproductive rights being perpetrated and set into motion at that time, which continues to surge even more horrifyingly today is beyond surreal to me. The lives and health of women have become regressively denigrated, hypocritically lorded over and damaged by the fodder of the religious conservative extremist agenda and the current tyrannical administration. This piece portrays the lack of autonomy, threat to personal agency, and unending scrutiny women are constantly enduring in this patriarchal world. The title, under his eye‚ references and was inspired by the disturbingly prescient work, The Handmaid's Tale, by Margaret Atwood, and portrays the horror of the regressive cultural tide women are facing today.
