I made this piece about a past friend of mine. I ended up cutting contact with her as I found she would continually put herself in dangerous situations out of boredom (ie eating her hand). Though, now two years later, I see the work in a much broader light. Women these days turning to self objectification from the all encompassing pressures of society’s objectifications of them. Groups of women being influenced by right-swing media to figuratively self-cannibalize. Having seen this trend become more and more present, I feel this work exemplifies this phenomenon.
