The Rustle of Pebbles celebrates the importance of remembering small moments we often rush past, our memories, memorials, and the times we wake up and forget our dreams. My inspiration is an impossible meeting between women from different generations who strike up a conversation in a fantastical world of natural abundance. The ceramic vase with pastoral decoration, leopard print, cornucopia, and tree trunk form small vignettes that prompt questions about our relationship with nature. These disparate images coalesce into a supernatural world of animated connections. The title refers to a poem by Czeslaw Milosz, "Encounter," about memory and wonder.
