This painting shows a masked child sitting on the floor and reading, while chickens stand quietly nearby. The child and the animals share the same space but do not interact, creating a calm yet slightly uneasy atmosphere. The mask hides the child’s expression, making it hard to know what she feels or thinks. Soft colors contrast with the plain interior, turning an ordinary scene into something strange and dreamlike. Small details and stillness invite the viewer to slow down and reflect on childhood, isolation, and the act of looking.
