Portrait of the Self was painted from a photograph capturing the artist's own figure projected onto an assemblage of plants, Plexiglas, holographic vinyl, natural materials, daily detritus, and fake flora. The unexpected distortions and convergences between her body and ‚"more-than-human" elements, caught in moments of sensory engagement, are translated through textural and fleshy marks. The emergent twisting form speaks to the uncomfortable contortions of navigating social and sensory environments as a neurodiverse and queer individual; a complex act of concealing and revealing one‚Äôs true identity and lived sensory experience.
