These cyanotype photograms, made from surplus metal stencils collected from the historic Edison Price Lighting factory in Queens, NY, are part of a larger 12-piece grid entitled ‚Night Shift. They invite reflection on the shifting skyline and layers of history present in the rapidly changing neighborhoods of NYC. The steel and aluminum source materials provide a link to the manufacturing sector and its workers, many of them women, as well as to the influx of new construction in the city. The cyanotype process recalls architectural blueprints, while the industrial stencil shapes are reminiscent of textile patterns from a world of cultures.
