This is a painting of a porcelain sculpture. I made a series of porcelain buildings, ships, interior rooms, decorative objects, and entire cities, referencing only my memories of personally meaningful objects and places. The sculptures were made from slip-cast porcelain forms cut apart into slender pieces and glued back together with more slip. The delicate sails of the ships were made from thin pours of porcelain slip onto plaster, left to partially set and then scraped and pealed off, attached with more slip, and fired. The delicate sculptures rarely survived, leaving the paintings as the only record of the works.
