A women of age, floats inside a dark home, unassuming, surrounded by a continuous pattern of feminine history, in the arms of young women.‚ I am humbled by the invisibility of women, and how to understand the vulnerabilities of our foremothers. Women who desired to exist within the convention, who took on the responsibilities of caring for their families and communities, who disappear into our histories of the world. This piece is a collage of photographs from my archive, a portrait of my grandmother, Mamie Jane Freeman. Through her I tell the story of the caretakers of our past.
