I met Marcy on the corner of West 98th and Broadway. A former Las Vegas showgirl born intersex, she told me her life had been a long journey toward self-acceptance despite her father's resistance. At 61, standing in sequins with a punk-rock edge, she stood fierce, proud, unapologetically herself. When she met my gaze through the camera, I knew I had my shot. A quiet act of resistance: to be who you are, even when the world looks away.
