From a Letter in-between the Bars, 2024

Steel, handmade paper, and water based paint

21x15x9 inches

Using steel and handmade paper, I make sculptures that reverse the two-dimensional tradition of floral arabesque (Eslimi-Khataei) into contemporary three-dimensional existences. I make flowers become sharp. The sharpness is a statement of agency and defiance. Flowers are often seen as feminine and delicate (many femme names in Iran are those of flowers). My flowers regain their power through their dangerous edges and become symbols of active resistance.
