As an artist I bear witness. My work follows my interests and concerns. Where I am not able to sketch en-scene, (i.e. while joining a protest march or portraying current events) I rely on my photographs, newspaper images, or memory. I draw, and I paint what I draw. I record my experience in quick line sketches, capturing its essence and energy. My studio work is based on these initial responses translated into larger paintings and drawings.
