From the artist:
My painting celebrates the eccentricity and beauty of three glorious women on the New York subway. Each is in her own world despite the closeness of the space. The woman on the left remembers the lovely and sad dream she had last night. The woman in the middle stares straight at the viewer as you stare at her. The young girl on the right is making animals from pipe cleaners, which feels heartbreaking somehow. I painted these women from sketches, photos, memory and imagination. I share their loneliness and their strength.
